Gameplay Logic (The Major Differences)

No Offsides: There is no blue line offside rule. Players may precede the puck into the attacking zone.

No Icing: There is no icing infraction in Alliance Roller Hockey.

Non-Checking: Body checking is strictly prohibited. Physical contact must be incidental or limited to "playing the body" for puck positioning without a checking motion.

The "Two-Line Pass": There is no two-line pass violation.

Face-offs & Possession

Location: Face-offs only occur at the beginning of periods or after a goal.

Hand Pass: Hand passes are permitted in the defensive zone only.

High Stick: A whistle occurs if the puck is contacted above the shoulder; possession is awarded to the non-offending team at the nearest point where the infraction occurred.

Penalties & Infractions

Minor Penalties: Duration is 1:30 minutes (if playing 20-minute periods).

Major Penalties: Duration is 4:00 minutes.

Coincidental Penalties: Teams continue to play 4-on-4; penalized players remain in the box until the first whistle after their time expires.

Goal Crease: Any goal scored while an attacking player is in the crease (voluntarily) shall be disallowed.

Falling on the Puck: Any player other than the goalie who deliberately falls on or gathers the puck into their body results in a minor penalty.

Game Clock: Two 20-minute periods (running time), with the clock stopping only for injuries or official timeouts in the final two minutes if the score is within two goals.
